CASTA is proud to offer two Defensive Driving courses: Defensive Driving for Transit Operators Certification (DDTOC) and Municipal Vehicle Defensive Driving Certification (MVDDC).

The CASTA Defensive Driving for Transit Operators Certification course was designed with Transit drivers and operators in mind, delivering sound operator practices, experience from trainers in the field, And a curriculum tailored specifically for Professionals in the transit industry. This course is intended to be used as a general Defensive Driving teaching tool for professionals in the transit industry, allowing each agency to interject specific company policies where needed.

The CASTA Municipal Vehicle Defensive Driving Course delivers sound operator practices, experience from trainers in the field, and a curriculum tailored specifically for Professionals that operate a vehicle on behalf of their municipality. After we released DDTOC (Defensive Driving for Transit Operators Certification) we found that transit trainers around the state were using the curriculum to train drivers on other municipally owned large vehicles. We realized it would be a service to adopt the curriculum officially to train other large municipal vehicle drivers. While most of the best practices are consistent between the two programs, this new curriculum focuses on non-transit vehicle drivers.

Course Topics Include

• Understand the consequences of distracted, fatigued and impaired driving

• Recognize the habits of defensive driving

• Better understand vehicle technology and safety features

• Identify personal driving behaviors and risk-taking tendencies

• Improve hazard identification and assessing risks

• Develop a personal plan for making effective driving choices

What participants will learn

Participants learn how to recognize both potential and immediate driving hazards and how to avoid traffic violations and collisions in a variety of driving conditions. They will develop a personal plan for making safe and responsible driving decisions.
