The Hiker Express had 3,135 unlinked passenger trips in June, 4,637 in July, and 3,758 in August. Our highest ridership occurred roughly between early July and mid-August which mirrors the overall ridership patterns that we see across the entire network. There are generally fewer guests in town following mid-August as kids go back to school so we generally see steady ridership on the weekends with less ridership during weekdays during the last summer/early fall. This service continued as a daily fare free service until September 3rd and then as Friday-Sunday only service until October 8th with steady weekend ridership particular in late September and early October as the fall colors took full effect. This service started on June 2nd so there is no ridership data for April and May.
While this route was marketed and designed for hikers accessing trailheads there was a significant overlap with our existing East Vail route. This resulted in a mix of user types with a majority of ridership going to/from a trailhead stop but a sizeable portion of riders also using this service to access downtown Vail or other parts of East Vail.
