The year over year (YOY) ridership increase on the Town's Red Route (downtown trolley) from summer 2022 to summer 2023 has been dramatic!

  • June 2022: 10,513
  • June 2023: 10,065 (-4.2%)
  • July 2022: 7,974
  • July 2023: 19,842 (+148%!)
  • August 2022: 5,916
  • August 2023: 14,011 (+137%!)

Total YOY ridership increase: 80%!!

Red Route ridership increased signficantly over 2022 despite flat sales tax (+2% increase over 2022) and visitation in Estes Park. One of our downtown business owners (who previously has said the Town "runs empty buses") said that the trolleys were the most full he's ever seen them.

The Town actively participated in the Zero Fare for Better Air campaign, and funded our own local print and digital campaign with the Estes Park Trail Gazette that earned 180,000 media impressions over the month of August alone.

Additionally, the Town invested in banners along US 36 and on the Town's parking structure/transit hub to direct motorists to free parking and free trolley/shuttle service.
