Federal Initiatives

CASTA tackles a wide range of transit-related issues at the federal level. CASTA’s federal initiative began with a unique statewide collaborative earmarking coalition that brought over $100 million into Colorado over 12 years. MAP-21, passed in 2012, included CASTA’s proposed change to include performance measures in the rural transit funding formula. This measure brings an additional $2-3 million per year to Colorado in transit funding.   Most recently in the FAST Act, CASTA obtained a small but critical change Bus Rapid Transit eligibility and participated with a larger coalition to increase bus capital funding.

CASTA provides formal updates to our federal advocacy efforts at the Spring and Fall conferences. We also send out periodic updates and calls for action to the Legislative Committee. To add your name to this list, please click here.
